What We Do

St. Vincent Pallotti’s Kitchen

St. Vincent Pallotti’s Kitchen is Durham Outlook’s core program.  We are Durham Region’s only seven-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year soup kitchen.

25 years ago, we served our first meal on October 15, 1990.

Through partnerships with other non-profit organizations and local churches, meal tickets are distributed free-of-charge to individuals and families experiencing poverty and food insecurity.  For those unable to access free tickets, a four-course, restaurant-style meal costs $1.50.  Children under 12 always eat free.

With the leadership of more than 900 volunteers a month, St. Vincent Pallotti’s Kitchen serves an average of 130 meals per day, approximately 50,000 meals per year.

Since our founding in 1990, we have served more than 1.2 million meals.

The Food Distribution Program

Durham Outlook has been distributing food in Durham Region for more than 15 years.

In 2015, with the purchase of a refrigerated van, we have been able to grow our food distribution network to more than 45 partner non-profit organizations and schools.

Leveraging our long-time partnership with Sobey’s, Costco, and other businesses, we are able to acquire what we need to maintain service in St. Vincent Pallotti’s Kitchen and distribute food to smaller organizations who do not have the means to transport perishable food safely and supply breakfast and lunch food products to schools across Durham Region.

Our goal is to continue leveraging our business partnerships to ensure that all organizations addressing the issues of food insecurity have access to food products for their patrons and clients.
