Janette is the youngest supervisor in St. Vincent Pallotti Kitchen. She went to school for social work and did her placement in the Kitchen in 2014. She loved it so much that she stayed on to gain valuable work experience in the social services sector.
Volunteering at the Kitchen makes her feel like she is helping people and it makes her feel grateful because she knows that you never know what could happen in life. Janette was mentored by Peggy, one of St. Vincent Pallotti Kitchen’s longest serving supervisors. Peggy has been volunteering at the Kitchen since she retired, 10 years ago. In 10 years she knows every patron’s name, takes the time to speak with every one and even pays them visits in the hospital.
When she is not in the Kitchen, she is organizing fundraising events for Durham Outlook and picking up food donations from her local Coffee Time. “It makes me happy to help people less fortunate than me and I do love people!”
